Pros & Cons of Pay Per Click

There are many benefits to pay-per-click advertising, such as instant traffic, cost control, and unlimited keyword inclusion.

There are also some important risks and issues with pay-per-click. First, once you stop paying for traffic, it instantly stops. Secondly, this strategy is more expensive in the long run. Finally, if you infrequently advertise using pay-per-click, it will be hard for your customers to find you a second time.

Pay-per-click is a great way to start advertising on the internet, but you can do better. Check out our optimization strategies, we can help you achieve your goals.

Optimize Your Pay-Per-Click Advertisements

Pay per click ads are paid marketing advertisements that need to be monitored and optimized for maximum conversions.  In order to optiimize your site, you will need to attempt to track conversions for your keywords.  Tracking your keywords can be difficult to do, and it is even more difficult to track if you aren't using a specific stats or tracking software on your site.  The typical way that ppc are tracked is using cookies and http_referer information passed to the server from the ISP of your customer.

How do cookies affect tracking PPC?
A cookie, when referred to a web site, is a small file that is placed onto the computer of one of your web site visitors, when they visit your site.  This small file is generally stored by a web browser into a specific location within your windows directory.  A cookie is a standard of web browsing and has been around for many years.nbsp; The purpose of a web cookie is to pass information back to the web server based on your web browsing activity.  When a cookie is created it can be given an end date, but most shopping cookies last for less than 90 days.   A cookie is a great way to track repeat customers, keywords & keyphrases entered by customers, referring domain, and more.

Can cookies be blocked?
Yes, and in fact many people block cookies from being placed onto their computers.  Many people look at a cookie as an invasion of privacy, and therefore block them from being placed onto their cookies.  Blocking a cookie is very easy to do and all major web browsers such as IE explorer, Firefox, and AOL/Netscape include this feature.   So when you begin to track your web site visitors, you will quickly find that if you use cookies to track your customers, you will have a good amount of missing information for your customers and their shopping behavior.

What is the best way to track PPC advertisements and ROI?
There are two basic methods for tracking your customers that arrive from PPC advertising.  If you have the technical resources in house, you can build your own components to track customers, PPC advertising, keyphrases, and keyword conversions.  The second method for tracking customers is the method used by most web masters, is the pay a service to track your web statistics.  Now, be sure not to confuse basic web stats with advanced ecommerce based stats.  Basic web stats will tell you how many visitors showed up, how many pages were viewed, and basic keyword and keyphrase information.   This is not what you need.  You will need a more inteligent ecommerce web tracking to monitor your customers and match specific customers to specific pay-per-click advertisements.  This type of monitoring can by purchased from either Yahoo Search Marketing, or Google's Urchin product.
